Her art makes her daily life manageable and makes our struggles relatable. Most importantly, her art gives us a taste of individuality in a world of conformity.
Born in Beirut in the bustling 60’s, I am a woman of many hats: a pharmacist, a wife, a mother of three, an athlete, and a painter. And oh! How could I forget – a lifelong nature-lover too.
Every painter says that painting is their passion: it is fundamentally true in my case as well.
For me, Art is a way to put out thoughts that words fail to express.
Painting has been a forever part of my journey. Born fourth in a family of six, and despite surviving a civil war, going through years of rigorous pharmaceutical studies in Lebanon and the USA, starting and running a business of my own,
raising a family… Painting was always either a way for me to escape reality or a way to confront it. My painting style is therefore constantly swinging between one school and another, dictated by the mood of the day or whatever inspires me in the world.
It could be anything! My love for nature in all its seasonal changes in colors, shapes, and textures, my sadness and joys, the trauma of living in the beautiful, broken city that is Beirut…
All these feelings come pouring onto the canvas in a mix of acrylic, oil, sand, fibers, collages, and crayons.
Friends often tell me that they identify with this or that painting. My secret is that I identify with them all – I only paint if I am deeply moved. I keep on revisiting them with brush strokes until I take a final look and say: yes! Done!
